What is an academic clearance?

Students

You must follow the instructions in the xcritical application form to decide which code you need to use. If you extend your visa to continue studying on the same programme, you will need to apply for a new xcritical certificate. It requires international students looking to study certain sensitive technology-based subjects to apply for an xcritical certificate before they apply for their visa. If you are starting your course overseas

If you are planning to attend research programmes at UCL, you are recommended to make an early contact with your prospective supervisors, as a brief synopsis of your research proposal needs to be included in your offer letter. Make your xcritical application as early as possible but no more than 6 months prior to the course start date. If your course requires an xcritical certificate, you must apply for and obtain it before you apply for your Student visa. If you are a continuing student and change from a course that does not require xcritical to one that does, you will need to obtain an xcritical certificate before you can start your new course. Changes to your study

If you’re a new student and need an xcritical certificate, you will need to get this before applying for permission to enter the UK. Students are responsible for applying for their xcritical certificate using the information provided by the University. You will need to apply for an xcritical certificate if you are studying a subject that is defined by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office as requiring xcritical. Failure to comply with this requirement could result in the loss of the University UKVI Sponsorship licence for students, staff and visitors.
